The Friends are now a well established part of school life and continue to organise social events which bring the Wellesley community together and raise money for the fun, extra things that make life at school ever more enjoyable. We are so grateful for the continued support of so many parents and staff members.
We have raised money over the last few years for wooden outdoor play equipment, the giant chess set, iPod docks, chargers & electrical equipment, the refurbishment of the common rooms and purchased new theatre curtains, black side curtains and special effects gauze. We have recently handed the headmaster a cheque for £12,000 which went towards the purchase of LearnPads & technology.

Wellesley Fest 2013
400 people gathered for a most amazing evening of music, food, drink and dancing at Goodnestone Park the day after we broke up for the summer holidays. The crowd was made up of parents, children, past pupils, future pupils and friends from far and wide. The sun shone and Goodnestone resembled a miniature Glastonbury without the mud.
We enjoyed music from Electric Church with ex Head boy Oli Bond as lead singer, Hot Wings with Colin Norton as the lead singer and finally DJ Enthus who lead everyone in a wave of dancing in to the small hours. Food was included in the ticket price and people enjoyed fish and chips, hog roast and retro ice creams from various vans parked at the side of the natural grass arena. The tickets in the form of neon green Wellesley Fest wrist bands were spotted across the country for the rest of the summer on beaches from St Andrews in Scotland to Polzeath in Cornwall.
Even though the evening was not to be a fundraiser and was designed to be a big “Thank You” party, we managed to make just over £2000 due to kind donations by parents and friends. Everyone who came had a memorable evening and felt part of something very special.
Gourmet Dinner 11th October 2014
The Friends of Wellesley hosted a black tie gourmet dinner in the dining room on Saturday 11th October. The evening started with champagne and canapés while being serenaded by the ‘Impromptu string quartet.’ Dinner was cooked by the student chefs of East Kent College. Famous alumni of East Kent College include Gary Rhodes, the Michelin starred chef.
An auction was held to raise money for improved acoustic works in the dining room, which has long been an ambition of the staff and pupils of Wellesley. £10,000 was raised to pay for the project.
A list of the fine wines provided by Page & Sons for the evening is attached at the bottom of the page for anyone interested in sampling them at home!
We continue to sell special merchandise (previous examples have included the delicious Christmas puddings with the Wellesley crest and festive wrapping paper with the profits going straight to the Friends of Wellesley). Ice Creams are sold on sports day from a small freezer located by the shooting range.
Block Lunches have been organised throughout the year enabling the parents from different blocks to get together once a year in a fun, informal way.
This is a brilliant and very simple way to raise money – when you shop online simply go through this website and The Friends of Wellesley get a percentage!
Do try it and you will see how easy it is.
Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to a very busy year.
