Sporting Success

Wellesley has competed in and been successful in a number of recent sporting events.  Read on for more details.

Kent County Athletics Championships

11 Welleslians represented the school in the IAPS Kent County Athletics Championships at Julie Rose on 15th June. Giving up their Friday of exeat the team was in high spirits as they set off first thing, and arrived in glorious sunshine.

Everyone certainly looked the part in the new athletics vests. With all of the team competing in at least two events it was a busy day all round. The athletics team did the school proud, demonstrating some excellent sportsmanship and putting in some outstanding performances.

Toni Alaka came away with two medals. Winning his 200m race comfortably after a frustrating 2nd place in the 800m.  He started out very fast, leading the way until the final 50m where the eventual winner put in a perfectly timed sprint finish to take the gold. Toni will now be heading to Birmingham to compete in the national finals for the 200m.

Harry Hemming performed very well in his 200m race managing to beat the qualifying time and also heads to Birmingham to the national finals.

Gigi blew the other competitors away in both of her races. Winning the hurdles with seaming ease and her heat of the 200m. With what looked like two fast races it was a waiting game to see what the final placings were as it was decided on times with no final. Gigi now goes to Birmingham to the National Finals for both the 70m hurdles and 200m on Tues 3rd July.

Barnaby finished in the top 8 in the boys U13 Shot and gained a 4th attempt but couldn't improve on his distance. In addition, William qualified for the final and finished in the top 8 in the long jump.

Kent Prep Schools Golf ChampionshipsKent Prep Schools Golf Championships

On Tuesday 19th June Wellesley entered three pairs into the annual Kent Preparatory Schools Golf Invitation held at Hythe Golf Club. Facing some formidable opposition, not to mention brisk a south-easterly wind blowing in off the Channel, one of our pairs ran out worthy winners with 31 points over 9 holes.
