“High quality art work around the school highlights pupils’ fascination with the process of creating an original piece of art, and their obvious pride and enjoyment in the result."

ISI Report 2011

The arts

Music, art and drama are all taken seriously and all pupils participate in these areas of school life.

Music is studied as part of the curriculum and most children also learn individual instruments. There is a school orchestra and an active chapel choir who, as well as singing in the school chapel, also visit local parishes. They have toured further afield to Venice and Rome in recent years and sung at a Prep School Evensong in Canterbury Cathedral in June 2015.

Art is encouraged through display and children express themselves in a variety of media. Work is featured prominently around the school and one child's painting is chosen each half term to hang in the Headmaster's study having been shown to the school at assembly. A strong record of scholarships (16 awards in the last 5 years), testify to the quality of the teaching the children receive.

All pupils act on stage during the year in a variety of productions ranging from full scale musicals to form plays. Recent productions in the Senior School include: 'Pirates of Penzance', 'Footloose', 'Joseph', 'Oliver!', 'Bugsy Malone', 'Grease', 'Honk' and 'Oklahoma'; and in the Middle School include: ‘The Odyssey’, 'The Wizard of Oz', 'What a Knight!', 'The Adventures of Mr Toad', 'Think of the Magic', 'The Pied Piper' and 'Cinderella and Rockerfella'. Performance drama is our biggest team game.
