Aims and aspirations

Wellesley House Preparatory School opens up a world of opportunity for girls and boys aged from 6 to 13. There are a mix of full and weekly boarders, and some day pupils make the most of flexi-boarding opportunities. The Year 3 to Year 6 boys have their own boarding house attached to the main school where flexi-boarding is a popular option.  The senior boys (Years 7 and 8) are accommodated in the main school, adjacent to the Headmaster’s House. All of the girls live at The Orchard, a separate house on the far side of the grounds, set amongst fruit trees and private lawns.
Priding ourselves on our family-feel, we set out to nurture and recognise the individual strengths of all of our pupils. Success develops naturally in pupils who are happy, inspired and given the encouragement to push themselves. We encourage Welleslians to be prepared to take a few risks along the way, knowing they will always be supported by first-class pastoral care that underpins our educational ethos.  
At Wellesley, we work together to give our pupils the best possible start in life and prepare them for the next stage of their education and the world beyond. Academic success is, of course, a priority and our pupils achieve excellent results. Our aim is to prepare pupils for entry into senior schools via the ISEB pre-test, Common Entrance and Scholarship. Wellesley offers small classes, superb facilities and our results are excellent. Dedicated staff perpetuate this through their high expectations and support. Additional educational need is identified and acted upon by a highly proactive and qualified Academic Support team, and extra tuition can be provided for those requiring help. Children are kept informed of their attainment and effort levels and how to improve them. They have open access to tutorial support at all times.
Traditional links with leading senior schools are maintained and in the last few years children have won a range of scholarships to Benenden, Eton, Harrow, King's Canterbury, Downe House and Tonbridge among others.  Expert preparation and guidance for Common Entrance and the individual application procedure required for each senior school are tailored for each child.  We aim to ensure their school of choice is the right choice, so that pupils continue to achieve long after they leave Wellesley.
A deliberately broad curriculum is enhanced even further by varied additional activities, visits and residential trips. Pupils are offered a comprehensive selection of competitive individual and team sport, whilst music, art and drama are central to life at Wellesley through the choir, individual and group instrumental performances, major theatrical productions and vibrant art displays.
Families flourish through good communication and this is key for Wellesley too, at all levels and through all media. The personal touch, valued above all, is supported by a host of information channels including a modern prospectus and website updated weekly with bulletins, parental handbooks, an annual school magazine, newsletters each term with interim updates as required, reports, email, matchline, scheduled meetings, social gatherings and major school events such as Speech Day.
Chapel is an important part of the school's Christian ethos with values based messages permeating throughout the school. The children are also encouraged to contribute to both their local and global community through raising money for charity and building links outside of Wellesley. A charitable trust, Wellesley does not operate for profit, but provides scholarships and bursaries to ensure others can benefit from all it has to offer.
Foremost in our thinking, however, is to ensure that strong values are promoted and that the children are busy, happy and kind. From this, everything follows naturally. By the time they move on, Welleslians are confident, motivated and well mannered, fully prepared to continue to thrive at their senior schools and deal with the excitement and challenges that lie ahead. Furthermore, the strength of the Wellesley community more than hints at the pride that all pupils, staff, parents, governors and alumni have in this school.
