Design and Technology
The Design and Technology Department is a thriving part of the school offering all pupils the opportunity to design, create and realise projects in three spatial dimensions. Alongside the timetabled curriculum is a Modelling club and children can often be seen working on personal projects in the purpose built workshop during their breaks and spare time.
The building of the new Science and Technology block several years ago has given the subject a permanent base. It is equipped with good traditional woodworking facilities and the traditional woodworking skills are still being taught to pupils outside lesson times. The pupils also work with other modern resistant materials such as acrylic, plastics and metal. A thermoforming vacuum machine is used to batch produce model boat hulls, which are then finished with motors and raced in the school indoor swimming pool!
Personal pupil projects have included a working diver's helmet (also tested in the pool!), several dolls houses and toy soldier castles.
