At the end of the Lent term, nine Block 1 boys traveled to Sherborne School to take part in the annual IAPS Small Schools Sevens Festival. En route, the boys were inspired by some Premiership rugby at Ashton Gate where Worcester Warriors overcame Bristol in a closely contested match. With the sun shining, Sherborne proved an idyllic location for some school boy rugby. Playing against 6 similar sized prep schools from across the country, Wellesley got off to a flying start against Chesham (4-1), before continuing their fine form against Winterfold (4-0) and Barnardiston (8-2). Our first match of the afternoon session was a thrilling 5-4 win against Forres Sandle Manor, before further wins against St Michael’s (9-2) and Perrott Hill (5-2). Whilst the event was a festival with no overall winner, the team were quite rightly proud of being the only unbeaten team. Throughout the day, the Wellesley side demonstrated great skills, determination and fitness and it was a fitting way to sign off from what has been a very pleasing season. Thanks again to the excellent support provided by the Gibson’s and Stowell’s.
