The first round of the IAPS district General Knowledge competition took place on Monday at King’s, Rochester. The Wellesley team did the school proud. They achieved the highest number of points 61 out of a possible 90) of the 11 teams participating, thereby making it through to the final, which will be in May. We were served particularly well by Archie’s historical knowledge, as the first round team question asked teams to match battles with the wars in which they took place. The team got all ten questions correct, thereby getting them off to an excellent start. In the further round the team showed great ‘general’ knowledge and we held the lead throughout.

The results from the two heats order the competitors thus:

  1. Wellesley Haddon Dene 61
  2. Bickley Park 56
  3. Hilden Grange 54
  4. King’s Preparatory School 54
  5. Dulwich Preparatory School 46
  6. New Beacon School 46
  7. Sevenoaks Preparatory School 40
  8. Solefields 38
  9. Somerhill 36

Congratulations are due to the teams in bold. These six (with tied scores from Dulwich and New Beacon) qualify for final to be held at King’s Rochester in May.
