In Reception, the curriculum focuses on the 7 areas of learning, based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which recognises the importance of nurturing positive relationships and tailoring the environment to meet the needs and interests of each child. In Years 1-3, the curriculum builds on the foundations laid in reception. The characteristics of effective learning will continue to form an integral part of each child’s academic development, underpinning every aspect of it.
Core subjects (maths, English and phonics) are taught by class teachers in a programmed, tailored manner that will be accessible to all learning styles and abilities. There is daily phonics and reading with an adult, handwriting, numeracy and problem-solving, supplemented with a wide variety of other learning experiences to provide the foundations for future learning.
Modern languages are taught from Reception by a subject specialist, who uses interactive activities such as games and music to develop speaking skills. There are also opportunities to learn and experience additional languages through activities and events.
