Play based learning within a wonderful indoor and outdoor environment. There is a strong focus on nurturing positive relationships and tailoring the environment and learning to meet the needs and interests of each child.

Reception

Children join the Reception class from 4 years old.

The curriculum in Reception continues to focus on the 7 areas of learning and each child’s journey is truly individual. The children spend much of the day with the class teacher but benefit from specialist teaching in PE & Swimming, Music, French, Art and Beach School.

Our interactive learning journal gives parents an accurate insight into their child’s achievements and progress.

Wrap around care is available from 8am until 6pm and is included in the fees.

Years 1 & 2

The children in Years 1 & 2 benefit from the child led learning instilled in the Early Years, but participate in more teacher focused activities. Most subjects are taught by the class teacher to allow for the holistic overview required for this age group. Phonics, English and Maths are timetabled each morning alongside the broad range of subject specialism teaching on offer from the Prep School. Much of the learning still takes place in the welcoming and well resourced classrooms in the Junior House. All Pre-Prep children eat meals together, with their teachers, in the main dining hall.

As well as swimming and PE, the children in Years 1 & 2 begin coaching in the team sports of rugby, football, hockey and cricket.

Children can take advantage of the Prep School activities programme including individual music tuition, golf, tennis, riding, Code Kids and swimming.

Year 3

In the final year of Pre-prep, children enjoy taking on positions of responsibility including: Junior House library and Cloakroom monitors, and playtime buddies for our youngest children. In Year 3 the class teacher leads learning in English, Maths and PSHE, all other subjects are taught by subject specialists and the children begin to visit the Prep School classrooms for these lessons; allowing for a seamless transition to the Prep School in Year 4.

The boys and girls in Year 3 participate in our U9 sports fixtures and attend training and matches twice a week.

All children in the Pre-prep enjoy spending time with their ‘buddies’ in the Prep School.

As well as a daily activities programme from 4.15pm – 5pm the children in Year 3 have a daily Prep session from 3.45pm. This means that after a full and busy day at school children do not have additional school work to do once they get home.
