Welcome to the Pre-prep at Wellesley! We are extremely proud of the exciting and nurturing environment that we have created since we opened our doors to the very youngest Welleslians in September 2019 and equally proud that within one year of opening, we were finalists in the prestigious Independent School of the Year Awards 2020 in the Pre-Prep category.
From the stability of the pre-prep, children from lower nursery to Year 3, all benefit from a family friendly feel where class teachers embed a love of learning. It is from the secure foundations of Junior House that children feel confident to explore all that Wellesley has to offer. Whether swimming in the school pool, choir, exploring in the orchard gardens, playing sport, weekly Beach school sessions, ballet classes or drum lessons; all children are able to follow their interests and engage in new experiences.
Our curriculum is tailored to the children’s individual interests and needs, the subject matter of topic-led learning changes depending on the cohort. Phonics is introduced as soon as a child is ready. Alongside the need to learn the skills of decoding for reading, we value highly pleasure for reading and children are encouraged to choose books from our library and all teachers read aloud to classes on a daily basis. Our maths teaching is practical and hands on, with children progressing from using concrete materials to pictorial representations and finally abstract concepts. By the time the children reach Year 3 they are taught by many of the subject specialists from the prep school ready for a smooth transition to the main school in Year 4.
Come snow, rain or sunshine our children love being outdoors. Everyone has wellies and wet weather gear to enjoy Wellesley’s seaside location and acres of outdoor space.
We warmly invite you to visit so you can see for yourselves what we can offer.
