School Last Week

South East Regional Swimming Championships

Well done to Ava,Thara, Joshua and Rupert. Who competed at the Regional Swimming Finals in Guildford. They came 9th out of 16 teams for the Freestyle relay and 7th out of 16 teams for the Medley relay.
Excellent performance and great team work.

Mini Marathon Fundraiser

Our congratulations go to everyone who took part in Friday’s mini marathon.  Our community was determined not to be defeated by the inclement weather, and the WHD spirit was out in force as boys and girls from all age groups took to the athletics track to complete the 5 and a half laps that equate to a mile.  Our thanks go to all organisers and supporters and please note that it is not too late to support the children in their fundraising efforts by visiting: our fundraising page.  Thank you!

15 Schools took part and Reuben Evan was awarded man of the match. All players were outstanding in their performance.

Year 4 Football Festival

Well done to all players who were part of the WHD team last week at the Thanet Football Festival. It was great to see so much camaraderie and teamwork. A special mention goes to Sammie Franklin for being selected as Man of the Match.

Team of the Week

Each week, a group of children are recognised for their outstanding contributions to our school. This week, our regional swimmers are team of the week. They will see Mr and Mrs Franklin for squash and cake / cookies at some stage this week. Very well done, Ava, Rupert, Joshua and Thara.

Mark Reading

Our first Mark Reading of the academic year was announced in Assembly on Monday morning.  All children in Years 4 to 8 were given “industry” grades by their teachers based on their efforts and attitude in the classroom and with preps.

Well done to the following children who achieved the top average in their respective year groups: Emmy Dobbs, Darcey Owen, Darcey Page, Suri Lear, Rose Symington-Mills, Freya Ralph, Platon Shatokhin, Grace Flowers, Max Miller.

The highest scoring form group was 5E. 

The overall aggregate House standings, including good and improvement marks are as follows:

1st – Kingsgate

2nd – Joss

3rd – Viking

4th – Stone

Parents and sons / daughters Golf Invitational, Royal St George’s Golf Club

Yet again, we are privileged to be able to host the annual school Invitational at Royal St George’s Golf Club.  This world-famous links course in Sandwich is a regular on the Open Championship roster and on Sunday looks forward to welcoming 10 of our keen golfers from Years 7 & 8 and their playing partners (made up of fathers, mothers or appropriate substitutes – in this case two very nervous staff members!).  The golfers and guests will enjoy the full RSG experience, which includes coffee on arrival, a 3 course (world-renowned) lunch followed by some golf and presentations on the terrace at the close of play.  Whilst it is a competition, the aim, of course, is to have fun and enjoy the magical experience of playing and visiting Royal St George’s.

BioBlitz

Some of you may be interested in taking your child/ children along to the University of Kent on Saturday 20th May, as it is hosting its annual BioBlitz. This is a free event for all, even if you have no wildlife experience, and is a fabulous opportunity to learn more about our native wildlife.

A BioBlitz is an interactive event, which is held to record as many living species as possible within a specific area, under a short amount of time. This data is created through collecting many biological surveys carried out by scientists, the public and volunteers, providing an excellent opportunity to get the local community involved with conservation.

The University of Kent presents a perfect location for a BioBlitz with the vast greenspaces, concentration of ecological specialists and close proximity to a city. It offers expert knowledge, biodiversity, and plenty of local people to participate. The event will involve collaboration between numerous local conservation and wildlife organisations, as well as the local community and students.

Women’s Crystal Workshop (Mrs Montila)

We are delighted to welcome Mrs Montila to school on Thursday evening where she will be running a women’s healing workshop with some of the proceeds going to the PFA. Details have already been posted on Dojo but to register your interest, please email friendsofwhd@gmail.com.

Bollywood Dance Workshop

We are thoroughly looking forward to welcoming Kalpesh to our school on Tuesday and we hope you will join us at 2.45pm where WHD will erupt into a celebration of dance.

RNLI Lifeguard Talks

We will be joined by the RNLI on Tuesday morning where children in Years 4 to 8 will receive a beach safety and lifesaving workshop. The team will return on Friday morning to talk with Pre-Preps too.

Team Photos

Team photos will take place on Wednesday morning. Can children please make sure they have their summer PE kit and, if necessary, cricket whites with them. Thank you.

Reading volunteers

We are currently looking for reading volunteers to work with a chosen class for weekly reading sessions. We are very lucky to have a number of parents and retired staff who work with us on a voluntary basis to boost daily reading. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Mrs Parpworth or Mrs Murray to discuss this further.
