Safety Notice

This is a polite reminder to parents that if you are walking to school each day that you enter and exit using the correct paths to avoid oncoming traffic at the exit.  Thank you.

It is also a polite reminder that parents must not enter our school buildings without signing in at the office first.  Naturally, this is for safeguarding purposes.  If children have forgotten uniform items or bags (which can happen!), these can be dropped at reception and we will ensure these reach your child.  Thank you.

Urgent Communication

There may be times when you need to get a message to someone at the school after 5pm – for example if you have a child in after school club and you are running late and need your child to stay for supper.  If this is the case, your child’s class teacher may not always be able to check and pass on Dojo messages, so please call the school on 01843 862991.

School Last Week

Environmental Award for Wellesley Haddon Dene

We were delighted and proud to be given recognition for the efforts that our School goes to in learning more about and caring for our environment.  We were delighted to be given an award for the work that we have done – specifically in re-wilding near the Orchard and with our beekeeping in our Well BEEing garden near the rifle range.

Curriculum Meetings

Our Year 4 class curriculum meeting took place last week and we will continue next week (4th October) with Years 5 & 6.  This has been an ideal opportunity for you to visit your child’s classroom, ask any questions, meet other parents and review what will be learned over the coming terms.  We have gratefully received your positive comments and feedback following these meetings.

Sporting Masterclass at Eastbourne College

A group of our Year 6 boys and girls enjoyed taking part in a “sporting masterclass” opportunity hosted by Eastbourne College on Friday last week.  Alongside other prep schools, our children had access to elite coaching and the wonderful facilities at Eastbourne.  Amongst other things, our boys and girls enjoyed rugby, cricket, swimming, hockey and some delicious food!  Thanks go to Mrs Crompton and Mrs Murray for taking the pupils and to our friends at Eastbourne for including us in this sporting extravaganza.

Jeans For Genes Day

On Friday, our pupils (and staff) supported the Jeans for Genes charity by wearing jeans or denim skirts/shorts. The Jeans for Genes campaign raises awareness of the daily challenges faced by those living with a genetic condition and raises money to fund projects that make a tangible difference to the lives of those affected.  We will load a voluntary £2 donation onto each families School Money account.  Thank you to all for contributions.

Pre-Prep Values Awards

We are very proud of all our Pre-Prep children for settling in so well and filling the school with positivity and enthusiasm.  Well done to the following children:

Year 1 Dolphins – for demonstrating fantastic kindness to everyone she sees, working hard and being respectful to all, Harper Donnellan; for his hard work in lessons and his focus to finish a challenge or task, Max Harper.

Year 1 Starfish – for showing amazing resilience this week and being such a wonderful, helpful friend to his classmates, Roly Hulme.

Year 2 – for always being ready to learn and the excellent attitude in her lessons, Claudia Flockhart and for settling superbly into Y2 routines and being helpful in the classroom, Freddie Spencer.

Year 3 –  respectful of everyone around her , adults and children alike, and always exhibiting qualities of an exceptional role model, Elodie Dooray-Williams.  For settling well in class and making a real effort with his learning, listening carefully to advice, demonstrating great resilience, Alexander Johnson.

Values Awards

Each week, there are “values” awards in Monday Assembly for Year 4 – Year 8 children based on attitude, effort, conduct and contributions throughout the previous week.  Congratulations to the following pupils who received applause and recognition in this morning’s Assembly in the Old Hall:

Year 4 – for both working very hard, doing their best and showing enthusiasm with their learning, Samuel Reading and Henry Harper .

Year 5 – for showing kindness towards her peers supporting them if they need help, Genevieve Frogley; for being a happy, helpful and hard working member of the form, Bertie Telford.

Year 6 – for a consistently great attitude to her learning and constantly giving 100% effort in everything she does, Ava Harris; for giving his best across the board, Alex Tran.

Year 7 – for joining in, trying new things and embracing every day at school, Sadiq Adeyemi; for being such a reliable and positive member of the form, Freya Ralph.

Year 8 – for taking each challenge in her stride and performing excellently across her commitments, our own logo designer, Sunny Zhao; for being a great teamplayer and setting a good example, well done, Teegan Pretzlik.

School This Week

Change of Date to Curriculum Meetings

We are sorry to say that, owing to staff illness, we have to postpone this event, which is now scheduled to take place on Tuesday 4th October, between 4.15pm and 5.15pm.  Apologies for any inconvenience caused to parents for this change.

Wednesday Afternoon – Sports Fixtures

This Wednesday will be very busy at WHD as we look forward to welcoming a number of schools for fixtures.  We are hosting the Shapira Cup (U13 Kent independent schools football) as well as having our usual sports training sessions.  There will be a number of visitors on site, too.  Parking for spectators will be available through the barrier on the main field – there will be staff and year 8 pupils to direct you.  Please drive carefully.

Wednesday Afternoon – After School Club Change of Venue

As a result of the Shapira Cup being used for match teas on Wednesday, after school club will take place in the Old Hall and pick up will take place from there – thank you.

Team of the Week

Each week, a group of pupils is invited to meet with Mr and Mrs Franklin in the library at break time to enjoy some squash and snacks prepared by the catering team. This week, for their determination, positivity, resilience and teamwork, very well done to our WHD Wild Club.  As part of their weekly activity, they were really keen last week to go litter picking around the grounds. They were very conscious of the effect that the litter can have on our wildlife.  Very well done to members of this club.

East Kent Ploughing Match

Our Year 1 and 2 classes are looking forward to a visit to the East Kent Ploughing Match in Mongeham, Deal on Wednesday morning.  Aside from enjoying the fresh country air, they will also enjoy watching a horse riding display, birds of prey, welly throwing and, of course, the Ploughing Match.

Macmillan Coffee Morning – Friday 30th September

We look forward to welcoming many parents to our Macmillan coffee morning on Friday from 8.20am (after drop off).  If the weather is fair, this will take place on the front lawn; in the event of inclement weather, it will take place in the library.  We hope to see many of you there and parents are warmly invited to make a cake donation on the morning.  Cash donations to Macmillan will also be gratefully received.  Parking on this day will be available through the barrier on the main field (please drive carefully).
