From the Headmaster’s Study

Following the national news last week, it was wonderful to read about and see the grandfather of a current Welleslian so prominent in the commemorative events to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day (click here). More than anything, to me, this highlighted the notion of “service” and of the incredible bravery and sacrifices that people made 75 years ago for us, for our country and for the free world. In a (loose) link with a similar theme but in a very different context, through my day-to-day role here at Wellesley, I am reminded daily of members of our team of staff who have demonstrated great and lengthy “service” to our community and a significant number of Welleslians. Two of these staff are nearing the end of their official Wellesley careers – Mrs Hatt and Mr Tunbridge. We look forward to celebrating all that they have given over the closing weeks of term.

Common Entrance

Block 1 pupils sat their Common Entrance examinations between Tuesday and Friday, and now await their results which are due to arrive at the end of this week.  On Saturday they travelled to Le Lac Mimizan near Bordeaux in France, accompanied by Mr Longdon, Miss Wallace and Mr Waldie, for a programme of water sports and other activities that continue until they return on Friday.  We wish them a most enjoyable trip.  Further details can be seen on the Le Lac Mimizan website.

Chapel

We held our third Saturday chapel service of the term at the weekend, and we thank Liz Worthington, Senior Deputy Head of King’’s School, Canterbury, for addressing the school.  She spoke about birthdays, referencing the Queen’s official birthday and then talking about the birth of the Christian Church and the holy day of Pentecost, commemorating the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles.

Team Photographs

Team photographs were taken on Monday, having been postponed before half-term.  The procedure for ordering photographs will be e-mailed to parents when the photographs are ready to be viewed and purchased.

Sunday Activities

The boarders remained in school on Sunday for a range of activities.
