From the Headmaster’s Study

The Michalemas term draws to a close with no sense of slowing down and with our pupils enjoying a host of festive events from fairs to feasts to nativities to carols.  All that remains for me to say is THANK YOU to everyone within the Wellesley community.  We have all faced challenges but the energy, progress and fulfillment that the pupils have displayed this term has been wonderful to see and I am sure you will join me in thanking our team of staff for all that they have done and for continuing to provide your children with such a wonderful education and experience.  Thank you also to you, the parents, for your support of all things Wellesley throughout this term and we wish you a healthy and happy Christmas with your families.

Informal Concert

We were treated to a wide variety of music in Friday’s informal concert. Guitar, violin, piano and cello to name just a few. Very well done to Grace and Arthur (Block 2), Rose and Joel (Block 4), Sophie (JL) and Laurie (JH) for performing. We look forward to more concerts next term!

Save The Children Christmas Jumper Day

There was such a fabulous array of Christmas jumpers (hats and gowns!) on display last Friday, from both pupils and staff. Thank you to you all for making it such a success.

The Christmas Fair

Pupils in Block 4 and above enjoyed the fun and frolics of our very own Christmas Fair on Saturday afternoon in the Old Hall. All of the form groups created their own stalls for pupils (and some staff!) to enjoy with an abundance of prizes available courtesy of the Friends of Wellesley. Stalls ranged from Knock the Elf off the Shelf to Splat the Snowman, Xmas Hoopla, a state of the art Christmas fruit machine and much, much more. The piece de resistance was a huge Tombola stand at the foot of the imposing Christmas Tree outside of the Chapel. We were also treated to a beautiful impromptu performance from the choir, which added further to the festive atmosphere. Our thanks go to the Friends of Wellesley for their generosity in providing such an array of prizes.

News from Pre Prep

Pre-Prep Nativity Play
The children put on a delightful performance of the Nativity, watched by the middle and senior school children and enjoyed by parents via a video link. The Year 3 children narrated the story while the younger children acted. Lots of angelic angels, 3 regal stargazers, a very hard working donkey, a clutch of shepherds, a busy inn keeper and of course Mary and Joseph.

Pre-Prep Christmas Party
Our Christmas party will take place in the afternoon of Monday 13th December. The children are welcome to bring party clothes to change into. We are looking forward to a visit from Father Christmas, super party food and some fun games.

Nursery deliver letters to Father Christmas!

There was much excitement when the children in Early Years visited Mr and Mrs Franklin’s home to send their letters to Father Christmas up the chimney. We’re sure they are all on the good list!

Contacting the Office

Last month, we waved goodbye to Mrs Hawkins our school secretary, who has moved on to work at the Margate School of Art. This is a new and exciting role for Mrs Hawkins and we wish her well in her new position. Going forward, should you need to contact the office, please may we ask you to email Mrs Baird via hmsecretary@wellesleyhouse.net. Thank you.

Team of the Week

Fighting off stiff competition from both the Colts rugby team for their stirring performance against King’s Rochester and the 1st XIII for their successful fixtures away at Ashford on Saturday are the performers from the Informal Concert, who are the final Team of the Week of this term. They will enjoy cookies and squash with the Headmaster during break on Tuesday. Very well done to these musicians.

Monday Music

For our final Monday Music this term one of our Block 1 pupils is rocking us straight into the Christmas holidays with some AC/DC…

Mark Reading

The third marks of term have been given and the Set standings will be announced in Final Assembly on Wednesday.
Special mention goes to the following pupils who have achieved the highest set of marks for their year: Clara Montgomery, Septimus Oduwole, Tillie Spanton, Melody Flowers, Freya Ralph, Grace Flowers, and Almudena Cortina Deniz.
The most improved pupils in each year group were Suri Lear, Alex Sant, Luna Sarafoglou, Carlos Deniz, and Matthew McBride, while the highest scoring tutor group was JL. Well done.

Christmas Feast and Party

We will be holding two Christmas Feast parties in the last week of term.  On Monday evening, all Middle School pupils (JL, Block 4 and Block 3) will enjoy a formal Christmas Feast in the dining hall at 5.15pm followed by some games and Christmas music in the Old Hall.  The festivities will finish at 6.45pm and collection for these pupils will be at that time from the Cold Corridor.

On Tuesday evening, it will be the turn of the Senior School pupils (Block 1 and 2) who will enjoy their turkey and all the trimmings in the dining hall at 5.15pm followed by some games and Christmas tunes in the Old Hall.  The festivities will finish at 6.45pm and collection for all day pupils will be at this time from the Cold Corridor.

Please can all pupils in JL, Block 4 and Block 3 wear Wellesley Best on Monday and can all pupils in Block 1 and 2 wear Wellesley Best on Tuesday.

Carol Service at Wellesley Haddon Dene

We will be running our Carol Service as normal on the last day of term but sadly we will not be able to invite and welcome parents – it will be an internal only event for staff and pupils. The safety of all members of our community is our priority so we hope that you understand our reasons for holding this as an internal event only. Can we remind parents that all pupils in JL to Block 1 inclusive will need to wear Wellesley Best on Wednesday for the final day of term?

Reports

The latest industry reports will be live on the portal for parents to view from around 6pm today. End of term reports will be available later this week and you will be notified by the office when these are available to view.

Lent Term

Boarders will be contacted by Mrs Spencer regarding their return time and day children return at 8.20am on Thursday 13th January. We wish you all a very happy Christmas and a peaceful new year.
