From the Headmaster’s Study

We are delighted to report that our Block 1 pupils achieved 100% success with their Common Entrance exams. The tremendous results (to a number of the county and country’s top Senior Schools including: The King’s School Canterbury, Harrow, Sevenoaks, St Edmund’s and St Lawrence College, Ramsgate) were shared with the pupils on Friday morning of last week, much to the relief of our Block 1 pupils who had just returned from their action-packed camping trip to Nethergong! This set of results not only highlights the quality and commitment of our teaching staff and pastoral leaders, but also of the work that the pupils put in in the build up to their exams, and indeed throughout their time at Wellesley. Congratulations to them all – they all have exciting journeys ahead.

Festival of Cricket

Thank you for all of your replies for this highly anticipated afternoon of competitive sport. All of our pupils who are in school on Saturday will be playing in one of these internally arranged fixtures, irrespective of whether they have a parent playing or not. Interest levels have been so high that we plan on having no less than 6 cricket fixtures taking place on the playing fields of Wellesley on Saturday afternoon. Further details will follow, but matches will begin at 1.15pm and afternoon tea, strawberries and pimms will be served from 3pm. It is likely that the 1st XI and Colts A fixture will then resume after the tea break, with all other fixtures having reached their denouement by that stage.
Thank you to all of those people who have been able to commit to this event. Thank you also to the Friends of Wellesley for providing pimms on the afternoon and to Mr and Mrs Long for bringing some strawberries from their fruit farm for everyone to enjoy. We are very much looking forward to the afternoon.

Maths Competition

Four of our Block 4 pupils headed to JKS for the annual Maths Competition. They performed superbly, demonstrating their logical thinking and mathematical talent. Our top pairing came 10th out of 40 schools. Very well done to Rafi Holding-Shah, Algie Moore, Bruno Wainman and Joel Goncalves for representing Wellesley with pride.

Kent Independent Schools Athletics Championships

Mr Waldie and Mr Franklin took our athletics team of 7 Block 1 pupils, 5 Block 2 pupils and 1 Block 3 pupil to the Kent Independent Schools Athletics Championships, hosted this year at Medway Park athletics centre in Gillingham. The boys and girls performed superbly in the face of severe heat and extreme competition. Aside from the efforts of all, we would like to acknowledge three of our athletes who have made it through to the National finals – Gracie Lawton (javelin and high jump), Stanislav Shatokhin (long jump) and William Franklin (200m).

Pre-Prep

Form JK are off to Howletts on Monday and JB are looking forward to their trip to watch Billionaire Boy at the Marlowe on Friday.
The Nursery children have all received a treasure pack from Broadstairs library as part of a Pleasure for Reading initiative.
The U9 cricketers enjoyed their final two matches of the season at home to Dover College and away to Spring Grove. A great season – well done all!

Maths Competition

Four of our Block 4 pupils head to Junior Kings for a Maths competition on Thursday of this week for this annual challenge that will test the logical minds of our Welleslians!

‘Super Daisy’ Cake Sale

‘Thank you to everyone who contributed so generously to making our cake sale so successful this morning. It was a very popular event! It was really great to be able to do something so simple that hopefully will contribute in some small way to making a difference. There are a few tupperware containers by the front door. Please ring the bell to collect. Thank you again, it is enormously appreciated.

Kent Prep School Golf Championship

6 of our golfers will participate in the annual Kent prep schools golf championship at Canterbury golf club on Thursday afternoon. This event, hosted by the King’s School, Canterbury will see our competitors play in foursomes format (taking alternate shots). It promises to be a test of skill and teamwork and will no doubt be a great experience for Archie Brown (Block 1), Will Franklin (Block 2), Freddie Southorn and Freddie Loudon (Block 3), Rio Goddard (Block 2) and Jamie Montgomery (Block 3).

Block 1 Leavers’ Trip

This week, our Block 1 Leavers went away to Nethergong campsite. After setting up their bell tents, the pupils went to see Kent play Gloucestershire at the county ground. The pupils had the opportunity to watch some fine defensive batting as well as have an ice cream. The captains of cricket then met the current President of Kent CCC, Mrs Neame (a former teacher at St Peter’s), who was delighted to chat to our pupils. Tuesday saw a fun packed paddleboarding session at Bewl Water before a leisurely dinner at a nearby pub. On Wednesday the pupils spent the day at Chessington World of Adventures enjoying the rides and watching the animals before a pizza evening by the campfire and some toasted marshmallows as well as the obligatory fun awards ceremony. After breaking camp on Thursday morning, the pupils went to nearby Grove ferry for a raft building session. On land the rafts looked good but on water the designs began to show signs of weakness and very quickly the pupils were all in the water. However, after the blazing heat of the previous days, a cool refreshing swim was welcomed. The pupils had a fantastic week and all of the supporting staff were impressed with how the group worked together. A well deserved week after an excellent year.

Team of the Week

Mr and Mrs Franklin very much look forward to seeing the athletes who represented Wellesley with pride, effort and real skill at Medway Park on Friday. They will be rewarded with squash and cookies on Wednesday break this week.

Wellesley Haddon Dene and Haddon Dene transition update

Next week, we very much look forward to the next phase of transition where Wellesley Haddon Dene and Haddon Dene pupils will get to spend some time together with teachers here at Wellesley in preparation for next term. Further details will follow later this week with regards to the specifics for this.
