From the Headmaster’s Study

First thing this morning, I was greeted (very enthusiastically) by all members of form JL (outside of my study) with the repeated question (always accompanied by laughter) “How was your half term, Storm Franklin?”  I have finally reached the dizzying heights of nationwide fame…

On a serious note, I hope you, your families (and your homes) have all been safe through the recent high winds and storms.  I would like to pay tribute to our grounds and maintenance team who work tirelessly behind the scenes at Wellesley with efforts that can often go unmentioned but rarely go unnoticed.  My thanks go to Shaun

and Jon, Mick and Mark for their efforts in maintaining our estate and keeping everything in safe and such good working order (indeed many of our community have commented that the front lawn is as immaculate as they can remember…).  They have all been flat out today clearing debris, ensuring the fields are safe for our pupils to enjoy and generally making sure that Wellesley is such a special environment for us all to live, work and go to school.  They are real unsung heroes.

Team of the Week

This week’s team of the week is the U13A Netball team for their superb performance in the U13 Netball Tournament held at Wellesley just prior to half term. The girls will meet with Mr and Mrs Franklin for homemade cakes and squash during Thursday morning break.

Block 1 Study Sessions

This evening sees the start of the Block 1 study sessions. Running Monday to Friday, from 6pm to 6.40pm, day pupils are invited to join boarders in study sessions straight after supper. Please inform Geraldine (hmsecretary@wellesleyhouse.net) if you would like your child to attend.

Music

This week Stas Shatokhin kicked off the second half of term with an awesome rendition of Heartbreaker by Led Zeppelin on the guitar. Well done Stas!

World Book Day

On Friday 4th March we will be celebrating World Book Day. This is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) a celebration of reading. The main aim of World Book Day is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading, something which we value highly at Wellesley Haddon Dene.
As part of our celebrations we would like to encourage pupils to attend school dressed as their favourite book character.

Six of the Best

Mr Parfitt reports … “This term’s Six of the Best goes to Ignacio Echevarria for his ‘natural forms’ drawing inspired by German illustrator and zoologist, Ernst Haeckel. The drawing was actually made as research for a three-dimensional clay plaque, however the quality of the illustration means that it is worthy of the prize as a stand-alone artwork in its own right. Ignacio has made a great start at Wellesley Haddon Dene and I am very much looking forward to seeing his continued progress in art and design.” The illustration will hang in the Headmaster’s study for this half of term. Very well done, Igancio.

School Orchestra

School orchestra practice is at 8.30 on Tuesday morning. We are really looking forward to being able to showcase what the children have been working on.

Thanet Music and Drama Festival

Several groups of children will be performing in the Thanet Music and Drama Festival later this week, between Thursday and Sunday. Good luck to all who are taking part.
