School Last Week

Chapel

We held our second Saturday chapel service of the term at the weekend, and we thank Mr Edward O’Connor, the headmaster of St. Edmund’s School in Canterbury, for addressing the school. He spoke about one of our Wellesley Haddon Dene Values, Kindness, talking about how random acts of kindness can have such a positive effect on other people.

Sunday Outing

The outing for the boarders this Sunday was to the VUE cinema. They chose to see Mary Poppins Returns, Ralph Breaks The Internet or Bumblebee.

School This Week

Music on Monday

Music on Monday was provided by Oscar Vaughan, who performed ‘Play’, by Bela Bartok, on the trumpet. Well done, Oscar.

Music Certificate

Congratulations to Joe Dawson, who achieved a Grade 1 Pass with Merit in his Trinity College, London drum exam. He was presented with his certificate in Monday’s assembly.

Hockey Colours

Congratulations to Ella Yu, who was presented with her hockey colours from last term in Monday’s assembly.

Team of the Week

The winners of this week’s ‘Team of the Week’ are the Under 10 rugby team, for their three wins last week. They were rewarded with cookies and squash in the Headmaster’s drawing room during Monday morning’s break.

Scholarships

The next few weeks will see a number of Block 1 children travelling to their senior schools for Scholarship assessments, with candidates for academic, art, music, sport and all-rounder awards. We wish each of the entrants success at their respective schools.

General Knowledge

Good luck to the General Knowledge team, who travel to King’s, Rochester on Monday afternoon to compete in the 1st round of the Rowland Constantine Shield. The team is Tabitha Butterfill, Tom Leonard, Henry Barker and Lilia Hunter.

Burns Night Supper

We are all looking forward to our Burns Night celebrations on Tuesday, with a supper of haggis, tatties and neeps followed by bagpipes and Scottish dancing, as we see the fruits of last week’s rehearsals. All Tuesday evening activities are cancelled as a consequence and day pupils attending the event will be available to collect at 8.00 pm. The day bus will run at the usual time for those pupils not staying for the supper and dancing.

Friends of Wellesley

The Friends of Wellesley AGM takes place on Friday at 11.30 am in the Library.

Exeat

Exeat begins at 1.30 pm on Friday and boarders return to school at 8.00 pm on Sunday evening or by 8.20 am on Monday morning. Please would parents ensure they have informed the school secretary of their child’s travel/collection arrangements.

Menu

This week the kitchen will be serving Menu 3.
