From the Headmaster’s Study
Thank you for your support and patience as we roll out Wellesley Online. Thank you also for the feedback that we have received. We will continue to review and tweak our programme to suit the needs of our pupils and we may well introduce some changes to the timetable later this week, once we have had the full opportunity to digest and discuss parental, staff and pupil comments. We will keep you posted.
There is no doubt that with our support and guidance, despite initial challenges, there is a huge amount of positivity to be gained for our pupils with the remote teaching and learning experience. My heartfelt congratulations go to ALL of them (and you!) for being so open minded in these initial stages. A copy of my Headmaster’s Assembly can be viewed here if you are interested in watching. We wish you and your families an excellent week.
Our teaching staff have worked hard to produce this reader friendly guide to our remote teaching and learning programme. The booklet contains several valuable hyperlinks for your information.
The third marks of the Lent term have been given – we did not have the opportunity to share these at the end of last term. The standings are as follows:
Special mention goes to the following pupils who have achieved the highest set of marks for their year: Tate Sheppard, Grace Flowers and William Franklin, Margot Grand and Archie Brown, Archie Butterfill and Amelia Lawton.
The most improved pupils in each year group were Idris Sheppard, Rio Goddard, Stanislav Shatokhin, Mia Otley and Mandy Zhou, while the highest scoring tutor group was 1L. Well done to these pupils.
LAMDA success “with Distinction”
Congratulations to the following pupils for all achieving “Pass with Distinction” in their LAMDA examinations towards the end of last term: Tom Leonard, Oscar Vaughan (Block 1), Henry Barker, Archie Butterfill (Block 2), Stanislav Shatokhin (Block 3), Raf Cable (Block 4), Freddie Southorn, Platon Shatokhin and Luna Sarafoglou (JL). Well done to these pupils for their superb efforts.
Easter Egg Hunt
The Friends of Wellesley kindly gave each pupil an Easter Egg on the last day of the Lent term, which they had to find hidden around the Wellesley grounds. Much fun was had! With thanks to the Friends for their generosity and Freddie, the black labrador, for helping to hide them and resist the temptation to eat them in the process!
School This Week
Deputy Heads of School
Congratulations to Joe Dawson and Rocio Simontalero who have been appointed as Deputy Heads of School for this term.
Captain of Cricket
Congratulations to Harry Heming who has been appointed captain of cricket. Harry captained the 1st XI in South Africa with distinction (as well as scoring a century and 4 x 50s in his 5 innings) and we hope to see him and all of our sports people competing later this term.
Six of the Best
Congratulations to Mandy Zhou (Block 1) for her wonderful sculptural portrait in clay, inspired by Rodin that she was working on before the end of last term. Well done, Mandy.
Well done to Tillie Spanton (JH) for playing the piano in Headmaster’s Assembly this week. Tillie performed Westminster Chimes. Congratulations, Tillie. Thank you also to Mrs Spencer for her inspiring and beautiful performance of Where’er You Walk by G. F Handel. You can listen to the recording here. Thank you, Mrs Spencer.
Team of the Week
We will be continuing with Team of Week on a remote basis via google meet this term and the Headmaster will announce the first TOTW in next week’s edition. Unfortunately, the Headmaster cannot promise squash and cakes / cookies but he encourages you to source those yourself!
